Videos

I promised to put up a few vids in a previous post.Since i've been crushing the 45s again lately, i've done one of my wins in those and my $4/180 sng win lastnight.

$3 45 player sng 44MB 25minutes

$4 180 SNG WIN
1st HOUR 29MB 17minutes

2nd HOUR 28MB 16minutes

3rd Hour & Final Table 28MB 15minutes

Final Table & HeadsUP play 38MB 20minutes

I think i played well in both tournaments but definitely made some mistakes. Feel free to critique them.

The videos were produced in camtasia studio 4 and will play properly in windows media player. I have another media player on my computer that played the video but without sound, so if you have that problem try windows media player 9.

Update

Didn't make my goal of breaking even on sharkscope for my 2000th sng. I came close but went on a bad streak. Just couldnt get deep like i was doing recently and took a lot of bad beats. Also played some when i was just not in the frame of mind to make good decisions... always a bad thing.

I've made two more final tables in the 180s recently but busted 5th both times. I will have to adjust my FT strategy and see if i can improve these results.

I have been meaning to update the layout of this blog for some time now and will try to do it this week. I will change up some content to reflect my current focus on small stakes multi-table sngs. I will also put up a replay video one of a $3/45 sng win and a $4/180 sng FT.

6max NL bug: Catching it again

Its been a few weeks since i've played 6max nlhe and i'm beginning to feel the itch to play again. I've played a few sessions on UB and have done ok. I finally took a look at my stats for June and i'm only down 3 BIs after less than 10k hands.

This is not as bad as it felt. I made some truly horrible plays but not surprisingly these were preceeded by some equally horrendous beats. But i realize now that these beats were actually good because my opponents were willing to go up against me with subpar hands, unfortunately they often won. Despite the beats there were often hands where i was clearly beat and still paid off my opponents. So i am not going to indulge that fantasy that i was playing great and just suffered some variance.

In any case this situation has led me to reevaluate my approach to poker. I now know that i cannot be a constant nlhe grinder. Instead i will try to play a mix of Mtts, NLHE (6max), SNGs and PLO, all at a leisurely pace. Hopefully i will make some money while also enjoying the game.

Thursday Update: Bubble Boy

I played two $4/180 tournies today, was poised to go deep in the first one but ran into a bad beat in the first hour in the process of building my stack. I was actually a short stack in the second at the time i busted out. I refocused on the this tourny and went deep; finishing 10th.

This is my final hand.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t800 (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

UTG (t43133)
Hero (t23832)
Button (t31389)
SB (t46168)
BB (t13735)

Preflop: Hero is MP with Ah, 9h.
UTG raises to t1600, Hero raises to t23757, 3 folds, UTG calls t22157.

Flop: (t47739) Ts, Qs, 7h (2 players)

Turn: (t47739) Jc (2 players)

River: (t47739) Th (2 players)

Final Pot: t47739
Results below:
UTG has Kh Qc (two pair, queens and tens).
Hero has Ah 9h (one pair, tens).
Outcome: UTG wins t47739.

Analysis:
why i made the play:

We are on the FT bubble villian had become really lag, applying pressure pre-flop and post-flop to take down pots. I felt i was ahead of his range. The table had gone into bunker mode; I expected that i'd only get called by KK/AA, maybe QQ behind. Villian would call a reraise.

Was the play correct;
I'm still unsure about this. It was correct in that my hand was ahead of his range, but i'm not sure if it was correct given the tournament situation. I committed 30bb AI pf with A9s. Another option, now that i think about it some more, was to make it 5-6k. I really don't want to see a flop here and would have to shut down if called... which is not appealing.

What about villian's call;
donkey!... lol. Nah j/k, it may seem like a horrible call. But when he made it i immediately saw the possible logic. If he actually thought about it, then more power to him and he's someone to be aware of. If not he made a donkey call that might turn out to be correct and got lucky. same result but big difference between a losing and winning player.

Given my push villian could reasonably rule out QQ+, the hands that have him crushed. Worst case scenario is AK. if he's aware he probably wouldve noticed that i'm playing a solid game, so he knows i would probably not shove AQ here. Against my remaining range he's basically flipping.

His stack is double my own. Given this and the above thought process, he couldve realized that if he called and won he would be in position to run the final table. But if he called and lost he would be an average stack, which is still 25xbb.

what would you do?

Busto!

I not there yet but i'm on my way there. After my last withdrawal i was left with 1K on Party and 600.00 on UB. Well i now have around 600.00 on party and 400 on UB. I've continued to lose and i've tilted worst than i ever have before.

Normally i would go on a down swing or tiltfest and just refocus and pull it back together. But not this time. Its been awful. when i play now i normally drop atleast a buy-in playin solid poker or several buy-ins on a tilt fest. I feel like i havent had a winning session in about 2 weeks.

Worst of all i have no desire to read or watch anything poker related. I log on to 2p2 and get as far as the micro/ssnl forum but never click on a link, instead i just log off again.

I've played some small stakes STT/MTT on fulltilt, PP and Stars and have done ok... mostly getting ITM or busting on the bubble. These games are really easy and stress free so i don't have to focus entirely when playing. 60.00 will give me 10 sngs on PP and 55.00 will give me 10 sngs on Stars on FTP or Stars.

I'm going to be withdrawing the rest of my meager roll leaving about 30 BIs for the ocassional STT/MTT. I've had some success in the 2, 3 and 5 table sngs which are the same buy-ins as a Stt for a better ROI, so i will be playing some of those also. Planet3gong here i come.

New Vids & Discipline

In my last post i said that practice makes perfect even if that is playing poorly. I have decided to practice playing with discipline. This means using game selection, setting a time limit for a session and sticking to it and maintaining a VPIP in a certain range. This may well mean that i'm not playing optimally but that is not what i'm striving for.

I have not played at PP since saturday. Even though i havent played much, when i do play its been at UB. I play three tables at once and record two. I feel that the recording along with my attempt to explain my actions helps with my discipline and it is something that i will do from here on.

In my opinion both of these videos are much better than the first video i posted on this blog. There are some pretty good situations and i think you get to see some of my game :) of course there are some bad plays but overall i think they're pretty good.

My Vid #2 - 2 table 50NL @ UB

My vid #3 - 2 table 50NL @ UB

Both vids are 1hr long and are good quality. I also think my commentary is getting a little better :). Anyway take a look see and please leave a comment or rating.

In other news

While i was running poorly last weekend i decided to sign up for a Mtt on a whim. It was a $6.00 buyin with about 560 entrants. I fininshed 80th for little more than my buy-in. The hand i got bust on; I had TT in SB w/ aprx 18K, bad lag w/ 35K min r utg (blinds = 1K/2K) tag with 50K calls in CO, I shove. Lag shoves, tag tanks then calls. Flop: 2c8cJc Turn: 7x river Jx.... lag shows AJo and tag scoops pot with 77 for the boat.

I think i played really well. But what i noticed in this tournament was how really bad my opponents were. They were awful post flop and i was able to take down alot of pots really easily. The last hand was prob only the second time i had been AI the whole tournament. In any case this has peaked my interest and im currently downloading tournament videos.
